Dear Yelldell2,
I have never experienced anything like you have described, and cannot fully grasp the depth of your suffering. My mother had arthritis and also underwent a surgical hip replacement. So I can somewhat empathize with you.
If you are not already doing it, you might want to keep a record of how the meds you are taking affect you. Especially any negative side effects. If you stop taking a paticular med, note that also. Share this info with your M.D.'s. Oftentimes they can prescribe alternative drugs to eliminate negative reactions you may have.
I'm glad to hear that your kid's and the congregation are looking after you. I'm glad, too, that you draw comfort from Jehovah and prayer.
You are in my thoughts and prayers,
OVB

I did some research re. slander.
Although they are two very different things, the Society lists slander together with gossip under the heading "gossip" in the Insight to the Scriptures book. Slander is viewed in a much harsher light. Slanderers are to be reproved and corrected by responsible ones in the congregation. the one listening to slander is also wrong and is damaging himself. Slanderers are compared to Satan.-page 990 para. 5,6,7
"While gossip can in some cases be more or less harmless (though it can become slander or lead into it), slander is always damaging and always causes hurt and contention. It may be with or without malicious motive." -Insight on the Scriptures, pg. 990 para.5The three dictionaries I currently have available define slander as; 1.Law An oral statement of a false, malicious, or defamatory nature, tending to damage another's reputation, means of livelihood, etc.(The Reader's Digest Great Encyclopedic Dictionary). 2. a malicious, false and defamatory statement or report (Random House Webster's Dictionary) 3. the utterance of false charges or misrepresentations which defame and damage anothers reputation(Webster's New Collegiate Dictionary)
It appears that, if you adhere to the Legal Definition, intent is important. Was the statement made to intentionally defame or be malicious to an individual? If the statement was made to warn someone, or protect someone, or perhaps gather information, etc., it's not slander. The other two definitions rely on the truth of the statement. If what you say is true, or you think that it's true, then it's not slander.Any other thought's out there on this?

M2U,
Hope the NIV works for you.
I just read your memorial posted by waiting. Very sad and very moving. I feel for you bro.The book is available from Amazon.com. The Publisher is Dover Publications, Inc./ library of congress cat #59-7670. Your local bookstore should be able to order it. Smithsonian mag. has a good article about him. I think it's can be read on line.
I think I read Survelliance Countermeasures. It's amazing what's available if someone wants to snoop.
Enjoy,

News
by larc ini've really enjoyed the conversations about music, poetry, movies, books and short storys.
i thought it would be interesting to read about little known news from around the world, so i'll start with some from the tiny dot where i live on this ball of mud we call earth.. i just read in the paper this morning that the people of port clinton, ohio are celebrating new years by dropping a 500 pound fiberglass walleye fish into lake erie.
we people here in ohio have a certain panache.. the tornado in xenia, ohio this summer missed my daughter's house by a block and a half.

larc,
Stop that! Have you ever tried typing while laughing? It's not easy.
I was going to offer a real news story. Well, I don't know how new it is, but it's new to me.
It seems the US has a problem. We're running out of storage space for radioactive waste and contaminated metals. The solution? Sell the radioactive metals to recyclers. There are guidelines concerning how radioactive the metals can be, but the companies involved are lobbying diligently to get those guidelines changed and unsupervised. In the meanwhile, the metals that aren't safe for us American's are being sold to companies in third world nations where the standards are much lower. The metal is used for eyeglasses, tooth filings, fountain pens etc.
Come to think of it, it might solve another problem. Once people start glowing we won't need to turn on as many lights at night. Just think of the energy we'll save.waiting,
I worked for a while with some Southern boy's. This CA native thought he was on another planet. Are all of y'all down there that witty? What does it, the water? If so, I want some.
mommy,
I agree with ZazuWitts. I think you are soooooo cute too! I'm too old for you but I think you're cute anyways.

MDS,
I was going to stay out of this. I don't like seeing anyone get ganged up on. I have read your posts. You obviously have spent a lot of time working on them. I have spent a lot of time just reading them. I appreciate you sharing your thoughts and will continue to consider your theories.
It would be a lot easier to read your posts, though, if the tone wasn't so HAUGHTY. -

Might be myoptic on my part, but I think that it's the election debacle as well. I think the election was fraudulent. Most people I talk to agree and feel that both parties are crooked. The Supreme Court demonstrated that they don't render impartial decisions. The lack of respect for the government and the legal system has increased dramatically. With lack of respect comes lawlessness.
Many third world countries look up to the US and consider it to be a model democracy (probably because of Hollywood's influence). We just proved to them that we're as dirty as anyone.
No offense to any Bush supporters out there, but the guy isn't even very bright, just very rich. Can you imagine him negotiating with other world leaders?
Simon has a valid point, whether or not you agree with the global warming theory. Global pollution, contributing to global warming, is a serious problem.larc,
My dad used to watch golf on tv. I never could understand it, you really gotta be a golf lover to watch it. Now if it were attractive women in skimpy outfits, maybe.....Ok, ok I don't really mean it. I've dated too many feminists to really think that way. -

I agree, too, that this is far more common that we would like to believe.
Many of these animals, no, that is denigrating to animals. Many of these mentally ill humans are trained by the US military special forces. Makes me damn proud to be a US citizen. Anything goes when you're trying to keep the world safe for commerce. -

I had a discussion with my bro the attorney once concerning slander (nope, he didn't follow my well intentioned advice to quit college and become a jdub). His understanding was that a statement had to be knowingly false with the intent to do damageto be slanderous. Slander is difficult to prove.
Anyone know how the society defines it? Any attorneys out there to offer a clearer legal def.?
Not trying to change the subject, but it seems that this has been used a lot to keep people quiet. -

Ok, I was going to stay out of this. I don't presume to be an authority on this subject (nor any other subjects for that matter).
My suggestion is to do nothing. Don't engage in heavy petting or sex with your beloved. Don't neglect your duties as a faithful witness of Jehovah. Don't talk to the elders, just prayerfully consider your positon. Attend the meetings, continue with your normal lifestyle.
Maintain your relationship with this worldling without any physical contact. Letters, phone calls, internet all work. It won't take long until his true motivations are revealed. If he loves you enough to maintain an exclusive relationship without physical contact, then take it to the next step. Let him meet the elders and deal with your heritage. Right or wrong, it is something that will effect you for years to come.
Once you have reached that point, post again.

Path,
I appreciate your advice. I don't mind being scrutinized as long as that scrutiny is unbiased.
Struggle,
Your honesty and sincerity are welcome.
I was raised and indoctrinated into the Catholic Church. I attended their schools and studied their religion. In my early teens I had learned enough of their historyto know I wanted no part of it.
In my late teens I studied and was baptized as a Witness of Jah. I was very zealous for five years and then drifted away. I lived as a "worldly person" but the things I learned as a witness never left me. I shunned all organized religion. I lived for "today" as I expected to be destroyed at Armageddon with the wicked. I tried to be truthful and (mostly- eeek) moral.
I eventually returned to the organization and lasted for 1 1/2 years. I studied continuously and did more than what was expected. Then I drifted away again. I won't elaborate on the doubts I had that led to this occuring. I'm begining to now list those doubts in order to address them (ain't excell wonderful). One thing I was extremely aware of and tried to overlook was that none of the "Bible Studies" both inside and outside of the Congregation were very deep. Discussion seemed to consist of reciting the information "in your own words" contained in various study aids.
I do believe in prayer. I do believe in an all powerful Creator. I earnestly hope that he will directly interfere in mankinds affiars. If not, we are in for one hell-of-a-ride.
I would like to learn more of the history of the WBTS (more than JW Divine Proclaimers relates). I would like to know if the sexual abuse allegations are true. If they are true, I cannot have anything to do with the WBTS. I will prayerfully consider this and examine all evidence that I can find.
I'll still try closing my eyes and clickin' my heels and sayin' those words. Who knows, maybe it'll work.
